This is the first time I bought my own kitchen appliance so I have little how good this pan is given the price but I am definately a little disappointed with it. the pan is surprisingly heavy on its own making it all the more difficult when you actually have something in it. the other annoying thing I noticed is that the handle gets quite hot; I held it with an oven mitt on and it was still a little hot for my hand.
on the plus side, the idea of combining the two pans is great in terms of space and usage. also, I do really like the color. I'm hoping that, with time, the I wont mind the two negative points.

I bought an enamel cast iron pan because it heats fast and evenly and it doesn't interfere with the taste and health of your food like modern non-stick cookware. It's practically non-stick. You may well need to use oil for cooking, but cleaning (even baked on foods) after soaking in soapy water is a breeze. It's much easier to clean than stainless steel or even Corning Vision glass pans. My only reservation is that it is quite heavy, just like your mother's cast iron skillet, so it won't be the best choice for everyone.
My pan had only one imperfection in the enamel surface about the size of a pinhead. The fry pan lid fits pretty well, unlike some pans, and you can cook just as easily in the lid, too. I like the colors. It's a good looking pan that I'm proud to own and it's a pleasure to use.

I love this little pan and I use it all the time. I wish it were just a bit bigger. Cooking 1.5 cups of rice in three cups of water pushes its limits. I actually use a spare glass or stainless steel lid for it, and use the lid that it comes with as a small pan to heat up sauces. I have had no trouble with the enameling. It is visually imperfect (not perfectly smooth), but it does the job it was meant to. I would avoid overheating it when preheating it, as I think that causes enamel to eventually pit.

Great little cast iron combo. The skillet, turned upside down, is a snug fitting lid. Turned right side up you can heat something else over the sauce pan while the sauce pan is simmering and also use on a burner for sauteing or frying eggs, etc. No seasoning of the cast iron is necessary. I had to order another one for my daughter who was always trying to borrow mine.

A solidly built, good quality pan, for a lot less $$$ than that other brand with the French name! The lid has limited use as a frying pan since it's so small, but you don't really lose anything so why not?
Like all cast-iron stuff, this pan is compatible with induction cooktops.
