As others have stated, the 1 1/2 quart oval dish arrived broken. Amazon sent me a replacement set which arrived with the same dish broken. The irony being the set claims to be "Chip- and crack-resistant stoneware"... It probably used to be before it was made in China.
I have used one of the dishes that survived, it worked fine.
But while the packaging was insufficient and the quality was lacking, Amazon's customer servers was amazing. They are truly the most helpful customer support I have ever had the pleasure of calling.

I was VERY dissatisfied when I receive this product in the mail. It's a 12-piece set and 3 of the dishes were broken upon arrival. I'm sorry, but if you cannot package a breakable set well enough to ship, then DON'T offer it for sale as an online product.
Second Attempt:
Amazon was great in sending a replacement set, but I STILL received a broken piece. Same issue applies - if you cannot package it well enough to ship, then don't do it. This is SO frustrating, because it's wasting everyone's time and money. Just do the job right the first time!

This product is a stoneware product, and is NOT manufactured using the materials and process used by the original U.S. manufacturer (Corning Glass Works). CorningWare was originally a brand name for a unique pyroceramic glass cookware resistant to thermal shock, that was first introduced in 1958 by Corning Glass Works. CorningWare is notable for the fact that it can be used directly on the stovetop. The brand name was sold to World Kitchens, Inc. of Reston, VA., which reintroduced the CorningWare brand name in 2001. The new product is apparently manufactured as stoneware in China. It lacks much of the durability and strength of the original CorningWare. It is easily chipped or broken by impact, cannot be used on a stovetop, and it is likely that a rapid change from heat to cold or cold to heat could easily cause the new product to break or crack.
I ordered this 12-piece set from Amazon.com, assuming that it had the strength and durability that was well-earned by the reputation of the original Corning Glass Works product over the years. When the item arrived, the small oval dish in the set had shattered. Amazon.com, to its credit, immediately replaced the set with a new set, and shipped it to me via overnight shipment! Upon arrival of the second set, I discovered that the large oval bowl had broken, and the small one was chipped and had a 1" hairline crack extending down from the chip on the edge. The breakage appears to have been caused by the packing method. The large oval bowl rests directly on the bottom of the box, so that any impact on the bottom of the package would be tranmitted directly to this larger bowl. There is no cushion material between the corrugated cardboard box bottom and the large bowl. In addition the small oval bowl glass cover is not packaged to prevent impact between it and the small oval bowl. A collision between the glass lid and small oval bowl is likely the cause of the breakage in the first shipment and the chip in the second shipment.
Unfortunately this new "CorningWare" amounts to a cheap knockoff that is being sold using the reputation of the original superior Corning Glass Works product, which is no longer manufactured. Amazon.com is doing what it can to "make things right" for the consumer, but unfortunately the fact that this poor-quality product is marketed through Amazon.com and other reputable vendors gives the consumer a false sense of security and quality that is not really deserved by the cheap look-alike, reintroduced by World Kitchens with the CorningWare name. The fact that it product's faulty packaging reveals how fragile these dishes are is the first clue given to the consumer that the name CorningWare is a now a marketing ploy rather than a true indication of a quality product. The consumer needs to realize that they are purchasing a common white-glazed stoneware product, and that it is not the pyroceramic product they might have expected.
After shipping this 12-piece set to my home twice, with breakage in both shipments, Amazon.com determined that a third shipment could not be certain to arrive intact. They have issued a full refund.

For those of you who remember when Corningware was not just ceramic, this will come as a huge disappointment. This is very fragile, and prone to break at a moment's notice. Shipping is traumatic for these wimpy dishes, as are very minor encounters.
The concept is great, and if this were Mom's Corningware, it would be a deal.
Caveat emptor.

The product performs well. Had no real use for the two small items without lids. Perhaps a little "pricey" compared to a price I found after purchasing. Good variety included in set.
